Mayur + Sonya’s Vidhi Celebration | Atlanta, Georgia!

Two blog posts in one day! I’m clearly on top of things. 😉 Actually, I’m headed to Eureka Springs, AR, tomorrow to shoot a wedding, so I thought I’d better get two in today.

We are so excited to share our very first Indian Vidhi ceremony, and we couldn’t be more honored to be a part of it! We had an amazing time with Mayur + Sonya’s family in Altanta, GA! A Vidhi ceremony is the beginning of the marriage process before the bride leaves home and is welcomed to her new family. It’s beyond colorful and I was overwhelmed with what images to post! Everyone was seriously so welcoming, kind and generous – and they LOVE getting their photos taken! I think most everyone in the family knew it was our first time to photograph something like this. When we had a free moment, a family member would whisper in our ear what was about to take place and remind us of the importance of the event – like the washing of the feet, the water, the fire and feeding one other. (Thank you, Aunties + Uncles – I think the team effort was pretty darn good!)

Our day began when we arrived at Mayur’s family home capturing all the special details and family photos while we waited for Sonya’s family to arrive. Mayur’s family lined up tightly in the doorway ready to greet her family, exchanging gifts, respect and hugs. Then, we headed straight for the living room, spilling into the kitchen, where nearly 200 family + friends surrounded them with love. I can’t even begin to describe all the moments that took place, so I will let the photos do the talking! (Ryan shot from upstairs and I had my little spot right by all the activity.)

After the ceremony + luncheon, we had a few hours before the engagement party that evening. So what do the two of us do when we have time in a big city? Shopping of course! Ryan was on a mission to find us matching traditional Indian attire! I think he’s still a little bummed we didn’t find anything, but hopefully we’ll be sporting some great outfits for the big events in September. 😉 Anyway, the families continued the engagement celebration at the King Plow Art Center. What a cool place! What an amazing spread! And the music + dancing! The DJ was outstanding and all the dancers were incredible. Soooo much fun! That’s why I thought I would end on a few dancing photos – Mayur surprised Sonya with a special dance! Loved it, Mayur!!

Hope you love all the photos! BIG thanks to the entire family – you’re the best. You made our first Vidhi celebration one to remember!
