Lovebird Studios | Heather Roth Fine Art Photography

One of the best perks of my job, besides working with really fabulous couples, is that I get to meet really cool, talented wedding vendors! Maybe you have had the chance to meet and work with the really hip + amazing couple, Jered and Jordan! They are a husband + wife team who have invested their time + talent in establishing lovebirdstudios, creating one-of-a-kind wedding videos for couples like ours. It’s no wonder they chose their company name – it mimics who they are!

It’s pretty common these days that we work with a videographer at a wedding. And a videographer may say it’s not easy working with a photographer, and a photographer may say the same about a videographer. 😉 Not the case with these two! We’ve had the opportunity to work with Jered + Jordan several times – they couldn’t be a better team. They are flexible, fun and kind. They don’t even get mad at me when I accidently bump into them + their equipment during the ceremony. 😉  So, I thought I’d ask them a few questions reflecting who they are and what makes them the best at what they do. Oh, and we took some fun photos too. 🙂

If you’d like to work with Jered + Jordan, take a peek at their work here. I have no doubts they are anxious to meet you and would love to create a wedding day video as unique as the two of you!

Enjoy!

How would you describe your style?

We get asked this question a lot and we always tell couples that our style changes to fit their style. We want a couple’s wedding video to reflect them and the things that are important to them rather than being a cookie cutter highlight video that looks the same as all of our other videos or any other company’s video. If your wedding is elegant and romantic we want that to be reflected in the video. If your wedding is high fashion and a little bit edgy, than that should be reflected in your video! We do our best to really get to know the couple before hand to know what their style is and reflect that in the video.

Most weddings these days have both a photographer and videographer. How do you guys like to coordinate with a wedding photographer? 🙂

The key to getting great pictures and video is having a photographer and videographer who work well together. The key is communication. When setting up for a first look or when the bride is getting her dress on, we coordinate with the photographer and have a plan where we will be and where they will be. That way we can both get great shots without being in the other persons way! For the ceremony we have 3 cameras going, this allows the photographer to move around freely because if he/she is in one of our shots, we just cut to the other angle! The rest of the day we just work along side the photographer and continue to communicate and have a plan so we can both serve the couple in the best way possible! Our philosophy is that the photographer and videographer and equally important and we are both there to give the couple the best product as possible, therefore the better we work with the photographer the better our footage will be and the better the photos will be!

How is shooting a wedding different from your commercial work?

We actually started doing weddings first, but shortly after, we got approached to do commercial work because of our wedding videos. With commercial shoots we typically have control over things like light and time, we can do multiple takes of shots, and can take our time making sure every detail is right. With weddings you have one chance to get it right. So weddings first gave us a unique skill set that benefited us in our commercial work.

All those copyrighted songs! How do you choose the perfect song for a video or couple?

Yes, we do have to buy a license for the highlight video (the videos you see online). Picking the music is one of the most important aspects of the video. Once again, getting to know the couple is key, we put in a lot of time and effort making sure the song fits the couple and the day. We never pick a song before shooting a wedding. Once we have the wedding footage we find a song that matches the feel for the day. Sometimes the day is really emotional or really up beat and fun. The perfect song can totally make the video.

What is your editing process like?

First, our team goes through all of the footage and labels each clip accordingly. After reviewing the footage we find the perfect song that fits the day. Then we sit down and figure out how to tell the story of the day in a creative way.

What is your favorite part of a wedding day?

We love anything that brings out emotion in the couple! Gifts, letters, first look, the bride walking down the aisle are some of these moments. Almost every couple has one of these moments where they are overcome by emotion and being able to capture that for a couple is definitely our favorite part of the day!

What is the most popular requested wedding day service you offer?

Our most popular service is our “Feature Package.” This includes a highlight video (3-5 min), a feature film (15-20 min), full ceremony video and all of the couples speeches/toasts.

What happens after you book a couple and start to prepare for the wedding day?

First of all, we like to grab coffee or drinks with a couple and really get to know them. We want to hear their entire story and hear all of the details of the wedding! This initial meeting really helps us get a feel for the couple and what the day will be like! It is important to us for the couple to feel comfortable with us, since we will be spending the entire day together! We also have a lot to talk about regarding the schedule and important moments of the day. We want to know everything that is happening so we don’t miss anything, but more importantly so we can blend into the background rather than asking questions about what is happening next! Getting to know the couple is really key to everything we do!

Jen + Mike Wedding | NEO | St. Louis Wedding Photography

Yay! We are officially back in full swing with wedding season! This year we kicked off the year with the gorgeous/celebrity-look-alike (Ashley Judd + Dermot Mulroney)/dynamic duo Jen + Mike!

I think these two can easily say they have been dating forever – an endearing 7 year friendship + 6 year courtship. 🙂 Jen is a trained ballet teacher, and her college sorority taught his fraternity how to dance. Who knew that years later they would be sharing another first dance at their wedding! Mike decided to pop the big question on a causal night at home, proposing on a Scrabble board … Jen was ready, with her four-point letter “Y,” to place on a triple score! Okay, I added that last part in, sorry. Needless to say, she said YES and the “industrial chic” themed-wedding planning was underway!

The fun and clever (Letz being their last name) paper goods were made by the talented Courtney Callahan Paper from Chicago. The soft and romantic floral touches were created by the amazing team over at Festive Atmospheres. I’m always anxious to see what they come up with!

Believe me, this wedding was so pretty! Jen and that sweet lil’ bun on her head. LOVED it and every moment of this day.

Congrats you two! You’re pretty darn special. 🙂

Enjoy the photos!

Lisa + Jeff Engagement | St. Louis Engagement Photography

Hola!

How was your weekend?! I’m finally calming down after a fun-filled fiesta birthday weekend. Saturday the 4th, my actual birthday, we photographed a wedding at the St. Louis Zoo, and Sunday we had a small Cinco de Mayo party at the house to celebrate life and all things Mexican-inspired! So sadly, it’s time to put the sombreros away until next year! I will have to get around to sharing a few photos – we even had a Frieda-style painting station. 🙂

Talk about two people in love. Lisa and Jeff are just that. The day of the shoot, we met at Remy’s Wine Bar, the location where they first met through mutual friends for a glass of wine and then headed to the Wash U campus for some pretty portraits. The proposal? Oh yes… hiking Yosemite National Park where Jeff asked a hiking stranger to take a picture of them, but he actually video’d the proposal. 🙂

I can’t wait for the BIG DAY in September! Obviously, my job is going to be so easy with these two.

Enjoy the photos!

P.S. Ladies: the cute peach pants are from BCBG! LOVE!

The Cole Family | St. Louis Family Photography

First thing out of my mouth when I loaded these photos on my hard drive … I L-O-V-E this family! I have been lucky enough to work with them since little “G” was a newborn, and here she is 2! Although they no longer live here, they found the time during their STL visit to do a family session with me. (Thank you!) There was no rescheduling, so the weather had to cooperate. Of course, the day we planned the session, there was a major dip in the temperature and rain was in the forecast. So we decided to work inside the Jewel Box and then once we warmed up we moved outside.

I clearly don’t need to keep rambling about the weather (I tend to do that), as I’m sure you already see it – this family is beyond gorgeous! It’s very clear that this beautiful couple is really proud of their little ones and their sweet, sweet family. And rightfully so!

Enjoy the photos!

Molly + John Engagement | St. Louis Engagement Photography

Spring is certainly getting off to a slow start, but the Botanical Gardens sure does have some pretty blooms! So we are wrapping up our last engagement sessions for our 2013 couples, and Molly + John happen to be one of them. Okay, I really do love all my couples but from the moment this couple walked in for our first meeting I was head-over-heels. There they were standing arm ‘n arm cradling a bottle of wine! Something so unexpected and sweet! Well, we ended up opening it for our meeting and needless to say I was so pleased they wanted us to be a part of their BIG day.

Molly wore this gorge white dress with the hottest details – low cut back and shoulder pads to add just a little hint of edge. John being the perfectly handsome arm candy. Ladies, I know you are going to ask – the dress is from RevolveClothing.com.  🙂

I cannot wait for their special day this October!

Enjoy the photos!
