Phoenix Half Marathon!

You know I really get jazzed up about professional accomplishments, but when you set a personal goal and accomplish it, the feeling is even better!

Back in August you might remember me starting my 5K training. Yes, I had to officially train for a 5K because I could hardly run a mile! It took me 12 minutes to run one, and I.was.winded. I’d run here or there 2 or 3 miles a week. If you are not a runner, and more artsy-fartsy like myself, you should definitely check out the Color Run. Sooooo fun! Then, Ryan suggested I keep up the training and run the Alton 10 Mile River Run in November. So I really started training, for real. Ryan made me the best spreadsheet schedule and I started running about 5x a week. Then after the race, since I put all that training in, I decided I might as well run 13.1, right? So this month I met two of my besties in Arizona to run the Phoenix Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon. A great flat course with glorious weather. Sure beat my 20 degree long runs here in blustery St. Louis!

To always be the one who just didn’t “get” a sport, or being the last to be picked (trust me, I didn’t even want to be picked!) it was such a great feeling to only be competing with myself. Ryan has been a huge support for me. He’s my running guru and the best coach ever. The best advice he gave me before the races: 1. Don’t start out too fast. 2. Go into a race with a very specific plan. Well, I followed everything he said to do and I did it! 2:03:44 with a goal of 2:05. Secretly, I wanted to get 1:59:59, but after mile 9 I just wanted the whole d*** thing over! 😉 My only regret? Not smiling a little bigger for that photo when I crossed the finish line!

Challenge yourself – I completely, 100%, believe you can do anything you set your mind too. Nike is right, just do it!

So blessed and proud,

HSR

P.S. Shout out to Keith for snapping these photos. Thank you!

Here we are getting ready! It’s all mental, right? Can you spot me in the photo on the right?!

My girl, Tara! She is so incredibly awesome! She breezed through this race with a crazy time of 1:44! Proud!! And of course, cute little Maria with baby Tripp cheering us on! Go team!

We did it! Feeing so proud and good, and ready for a massage!

Sophia Alexandra | 10 days old | St. Louis Newborn Photography

Happy Friday!

I’ve got someone really sweet to share with you today. Baby Sophia Alexandra! Who is just 10 days old here. This family is just the sweetest, and big sister, Lilly, even joined the fun. She is going to be an amazing big sister! While I was working with Sophia, she was in her playroom dancing, singing and coloring – all simultaneously. An early multi-tasker is my kind of girl! And then during Sophia’s feeding break, Lilly and I read books. Princesses and Winnie the Poo were the topics of choice! My daily cup of snuggling and education. Heart. 🙂 Needless to say, I loved this session!

Isn’t she just the sweetest?

Brooke + Ryan Engagement | St. Louis Engagement Photography

Sometimes with living in the Midwest, the only thing I feel we have to look forward to is the SNOW! And as a photographer, I can *usually* get one or two of our couples to be up for a snowy/cold adventure. Lucky for me, the adorable Brooke and Ryan were all for it! So, my Ryan and I headed over to the middle-of-nowhere-Illinois… 😉 the type of place where you go through several tiny towns until you finally reach the next tiny town you’re supposed to be at. (That was the same way for me growing up!) We seriously had so much fun on Brooke’s family farm that we didn’t even care the temps were below 30 degrees!

I don’t know how these two are going to choose their favorites! The first 5 images out of the camera were already so perfect! Can’t get any better than that!

August will be here before we know it – and a total turn-around in weather conditions. 🙂

Enjoy!

Mayur + Sonya Hindu Wedding | Heather Roth Fine Art Photography

Where do I even start?! Being part of a Hindu celebration was definitely a highlight of 2012 for me! So, I’m excited to kick off 2013 with this wedding! You’ve seen this couple plenty of times and I really hope it’s not the last… I’ve already gotten so many compliments on Mayur + Sonya’s “wedding photos” … I’m like, just wait! You haven’t even seen the wedding day yet! This was a fun-filled weekend for us and we were so honored that a couple + family would even allow a set of photographers who have never shot an Indian wedding to do so! 😉 You know you love a couple when they ask you for the “fist bump” image for their wedding “Thank You” card. This couple is like no other, and I’m so in love.

The day began with a “first look” in the weeeeee hours of the morning on the cobblestone streets of downtown Old St. Charles. We had it all to ourselves, and I was giddy with the first images we got with the rising sun! But wait it gets even better. The celebration started with Mayur’s family dancing + singing while Mayur rode in on an elephant (just kidding – we all wished for that – but those animals are so darn hard to rent!) I mean, a convertible. Mayur joined his family to dance in the streets of Forest Park – it was a beautiful parade of color and I was in the middle of it. They slowly made their way toward Sonya’s family, anxiously waiting under the World’s Fair Pavilion to welcome Mayur and his family.

Ryan teases me because I usually attempt to explain too much on my blog… I hope you’re not bored or confused already. 🙂 Anyway, I’ll continue from here with the cliff notes version. Mayur is escorted down to the mandap where he is covered with a white sheet. Sonya makes her grand entrance (gah! that sunlight coming through her veil was so pretty!). I included a lot of these shots because I just loved that moment. Then the ceremony continues, so now I’ll let the photos do the talking! There are so many aspects that remain untold – I just couldn’t narrow down my favorites. I’ve been told by “industry leaders” that 15 – 25 images on a blog is plenty. Well, I broke that rule.

Love, love, love these images. I hope you do to! BIG thanks + smooches to these two fabulous families!

St Louis Magazine Commercial Work

Happy New Year!

We had a blast this past year working with so many wonderful clients and gorgeous weddings! I’m really thankful for everyone who supports our work. It just warms my heart.

My lips have been sealed for a while now, dying to share the news… I’m beyond excited to share this tremendous opportunity I had with St. Louis Magazine. They asked me to assist with the January Unveiled Bridal issue! We featured 4 different “trend boards” (rustic, modern, mint and art deco) showcasing a long list of fabulously talented wedding vendors in St. Louis! And I’m the lucky one who got to photograph all the looks! Who needs Pinterest when there are so many talented people to reach out to locally – all of whom will help give you inspiration for your BIG day. 😉 This certainly made history with me, and I’m really, really happy to share it with you!

Along with the Unveiled section of the magazine, they feature a couple of real weddings! Haley and Patrick’s rustic (beyond gorgeous) wedding made the spread too!

So stop what you are doing, and go grab one of these glossy magazines! It’s the one with those adorable babies on the front.

Hope everyday this year is filled with confetti, and really, really good news for you!
