On a personal note… | Alton 10 Mile River Race

Hi there!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday weekend! Did you run a Turkey Trot or get outside and do something else fun?

So many of my couples are big runners, including my husband… who is an all around amazing athlete. Being a photographer and working from home, it’s easy to slip into a wedding coma. I have come to realize that sometimes it’s all I can talk about. That, and how busy I am trying to get everything done … solo. I sometimes forget there are other current events, issues, and activities that others like to talk about too. 😉

Since this is my blog and it’s meant to be on the personal side, you must know I.am.not.athletic.whatsoever. I grew up in a 1A school where I graduated with 26 people. 24 of them were heavily into sports. Their parents even went to the same school and played in the same sports they did. I grew up with artsy parents who didn’t know a thing about sports. I only tried sports because I had too… I took a stab at volleyball. I was tall, but was completely pathetic. I was only allowed “in” after we were waaaay ahead. ha! With softball they stuck me in the outfield where I just ducked when the ball got too close. Basketball I attempted to understand, but I just asked if I could hold the clipboard and take stats. Track, blah. Oh I hated running. I remember I could barely do a mile! I did try though, but I went back to designing clothes and making things. 🙂

So 15 years after high school and with three 5Ks under my belt, the hubby challenged me to run the 53rd annual 10 mile Alton River Race (I’ve heard it’s one of the oldest in the nation). I trained for 4 months! I did my best to keep up with the routine, and it was so nice to force myself to get up and move away from my computer at times. I came back feeling better with a clear mind, energized and ready to get things done. 🙂

Well, the race was this weekend and I’ve got to admit I’m so darn proud of myself. I had a goal of 1:40, and made it happen in 1:36. Woot! Ryan took a few iPhone photos of me.

I’m going to go ice my knees now, and think about my next big adventure. Who’s with me?
