On a personal note… | Alton 10 Mile River Race

Hi there!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday weekend! Did you run a Turkey Trot or get outside and do something else fun?

So many of my couples are big runners, including my husband… who is an all around amazing athlete. Being a photographer and working from home, it’s easy to slip into a wedding coma. I have come to realize that sometimes it’s all I can talk about. That, and how busy I am trying to get everything done … solo. I sometimes forget there are other current events, issues, and activities that others like to talk about too. 😉

Since this is my blog and it’s meant to be on the personal side, you must know I.am.not.athletic.whatsoever. I grew up in a 1A school where I graduated with 26 people. 24 of them were heavily into sports. Their parents even went to the same school and played in the same sports they did. I grew up with artsy parents who didn’t know a thing about sports. I only tried sports because I had too… I took a stab at volleyball. I was tall, but was completely pathetic. I was only allowed “in” after we were waaaay ahead. ha! With softball they stuck me in the outfield where I just ducked when the ball got too close. Basketball I attempted to understand, but I just asked if I could hold the clipboard and take stats. Track, blah. Oh I hated running. I remember I could barely do a mile! I did try though, but I went back to designing clothes and making things. 🙂

So 15 years after high school and with three 5Ks under my belt, the hubby challenged me to run the 53rd annual 10 mile Alton River Race (I’ve heard it’s one of the oldest in the nation). I trained for 4 months! I did my best to keep up with the routine, and it was so nice to force myself to get up and move away from my computer at times. I came back feeling better with a clear mind, energized and ready to get things done. 🙂

Well, the race was this weekend and I’ve got to admit I’m so darn proud of myself. I had a goal of 1:40, and made it happen in 1:36. Woot! Ryan took a few iPhone photos of me.

I’m going to go ice my knees now, and think about my next big adventure. Who’s with me?

It’s really so neat to see my wedding couples grow. Shelby + Bryce welcomed a new baby girl into this world, and they are officially a family of three! I was so honored to photograph this little peanut. Nola is so iddy biddy, and I just love the image where Bryce was adjusting her hat (handmade by Grandma!) – look how big his hands are compared to her little head. She’s not going to be this small forever, so enjoy her while she is.

Enjoy the photos! Congrats to Shelby + Bryce!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We all have a lot to be thankful for.

Nehley + Dustin Engagement | Heather Roth Fine Art Photography

Can you tell I’ve been MIA due to fall portrait season and the crazy end to the wedding season?! I still wanted to squeeze ooooone last post in before the Thanksgiving holiday. I have a lot to be thankful for and I can’t wait to relax and of course, over-indulge with the fam.

Nehley and Dustin are the cutest pair! We had such a fun session in the CWE (central west end) where we braved a little chilly weather! It’s time to get out my shootin’ gloves! Also in the CWE … Dustin happened to propose at one of my favorite restaurants – Brasserie by Niche during dessert, which happened to be his birthday. Looks like he won’t forget that date! 😉

Enjoy some of my faves, and I’ll be back soon!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Friday!

This past weekend Ryan and I had a chance to get away for our 2nd anniversary! We went to Austin, Texas – yeeeeehaaw! We had so much fun. Another photographer friend once told me that taking off a day during fall wedding/portrait season is the equivalent of a CPA taking a week-long vacation during tax season. Yeah, so everything is pretty much piling up, but I’m doing my best to stay on top of everything and still deliver as promised. Thank you to everyone who has been supportive and so patient! So far, knock on wood, I don’t have anyone asking me where their photos are! Phew!

Before I move on to the real reason for the post, I *have* to mention my chance encounter with Ryan Gosling. Yes, the yummy Ryan Gosling. This was probably the highlight of my anniversary trip, but don’t tell Ryan that! 😉 We were having dinner at Uchi (YUM!) and he happened to be dining there too! I was so nervous, and Ryan was a little embarrassed when I decided to go sit down next to Ryan Gosling and ask him for a photo. I felt like I was 13. He said no…. politely though, shook my hand and congratulated me on our anniversary. I was deflated and didn’t want to wash my hand for days. He said he was trying to lay low and it was his “day off.” Hmfphh. Well, I’m still in love with him, and I got to walk away with another sweet handsome Ryan anyway! 🙂

Speaking of famous people, meet Ashley Judd + Dermot Mulroney! Before we left for our trip, I had the opportunity to work with Jen + Mike. Don’t these two look so much like them?! We had a fun engagement session at Laumeier Sculpture park. Mike has the most adorable little dimples, and these.two.are.in.love.

Enjoy the photos y’all!

Everett Alexander 10 days old | St. Louis Newborn Photography

How is it all ready November 1st?! Hope everyone had a safe & fun Halloween last night! I loved seeing all the photos of kiddos dressed up on Facebook. It got me already thinking of Halloween costumes for next year! It just so happens to be my favorite holiday. 🙂

I love it when I have the opportunity to take newborns out in the warm fall weather. So I wrote little Everett’s name on a wood block I had painted with chalkboard paint. One of my fall wedding couples had used them as chargers at their beautiful table. Lucky me I took one home to photograph the invitation, and thought how cool it would be to use in my shoot with baby Everett. Worked like a charm! Although this little guy didn’t want to sleep through the shoot, we did pretty darn good together! Love him!

Enjoy some of my favorites.
