Shannon Sewell Workshop | St. Louis Portrait Photography

Hello!

I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful spring weather! Last weekend, I had the opportunity to do a one-on-one workshop with the fabulous and talented, Shannon Sewell in Kansas City. I’ve been stalking her workshop agenda for over a year now, and she was finally planning to be in the area, so I was on it! Well, 1,600 miles or so closer than Oregon. 🙂 I’m drawn to her work because of her creative, yet conceptual ideas she comes up with. Shannon is the most down-to-earth gal ever – it’s gotta be her Northwest nature! She focuses primarily on commercial work for children’s clothing designers, and on occasion, you are one lucky family if she adds in a portrait session to her busy schedule. We spent the day chatting, and working with twin sisters, age 6. They are so adorable dressed in sweet, sweet clothing from the Measure. I had a great time and love doing these types of workshops. A couple of years ago, I had the chance to work with the talented Omaha, Nebraska baby posers (sisters) – Kelly Ryden + Tracy Raver and the fabulous children’s photographer, Beth Jansen from Oklahoma City.

As a photographer, I think it’s easy to slip into the “norm” and do what everyone else is doing / what traditional consumers are looking for in a portrait session. This year I’m starting to focus on other things I’m good at, and incorporate it into my work. Art, ideas, concepts, clothing, styling, display, merchandising, etc.! 🙂 I’m excited and bursting at the seams to go this direction.

A few words from Shannon that had me falling head over heels in love:

“Take a Chance.”

“We are here because we have an artistic vision that photography has given us the tool to express. With the right tools and the right plan of attack though, you can keep your vision clear. Don’t wait for it – build the scaffolding by surrounding yourself & your world with inspiration. Give yourself permission to dream BIG and take a chance.” Don’t you just love that?! 🙂

If you are a children’s designer and looking to showcase your beautiful designs, I’d love to connect! OR if you are a talented Mom who wants to do something a little different, give me a call. I’d love to collaborate on the next big idea.

Enjoy some of my favorites from the day!

I’m taking a week off for spring break, so you will have to catch up with me in a couple of weeks.
